SNO // Music They Love #47

Posted by on

'Music They Love'... we ask DJ's and producers to delve into their collection and put together a selection of records that have meant a lot to them in the past, as well as the present. All things inspirational and influential - the records which have shaped their sound as a producer or selection as a DJ.

Our last mix of 2020 comes from one of our favourite selectors SNO. An hour of beautiful tracks from the depths of her collection, spanning Jazz, Hip Hop, Disco and more from artists based around the globe. Some much needed positive vibes to finish off this crazy year! SNO had a few words about her mix, which you can read below. Enjoy!

'Since lockdown in March, I haven't bought a single record. I have been listening to the records that I currently have, records that I only listened to once or bought a record for a certain song and never really listened to the entire album. I put together different styles/genres of music I love and enjoy.

This mix consist of Jazz-Funk from Bra Hugh Masekela, Ahmad Jamal’ Swahililand from his 1974 Jamal Plays Jamal record which I was introduced to by my dearest chum Tom Edney, and some Spiritual Soul-Jazz from Das Goldenes Zeitalter, Hip Hop from MF Doom, Omar Souleyman, added a bit of a disco track from Tim Maia, Congolese Rumba, Ghanaian Highlife, combined a segment of Fuji and Juju music from Nigeria, Benga music from Kenya and lastly Afroblues from Mali.

Special mention of Das Goldenes Zeitalter record that I received as a birthday gift from Mr Scruff, Andrea Trout and MC LC AC and Alhaji (Chief) Prof Kollington Ayinla record (Fuji music) also received as a birthday gift from my dearest friend Oluwatumininu (Tumi) Atolagbe.'
